One of the most anticipated culinary events of the year is coming up on November 5. Iron Chef Goes Coastal will be held again this year at the Seaside Convention Center. More chefs, more restaurants and more great cuisine!

Four local chefs will form two teams and compete to win the 2013 Iron Chef goes Coastal Title. Chefs prepare a three-course dinner for the judges. One of those judges could be you! We hold a live auction before the competition, and the winning bidder gets to participate as a guest judge!

There will be a silent auction, where you can bid on food, beverages, and services from your local businesses. And, their will be a live auction where you can even bid on becoming an Iron Chef Goes Coastal judge!

Along with the Iron Chef main event competition, you will have the opportunity to taste and judge appetizers provided by the people’s choice participants. The top two from this category will secure their spot in the 2014 Iron Chef competition.  Attendees will also vote on their favorite dessert and the top restaurant will win the honor of “Best Dessert of Clatsop County”

This month, the United Way of Clatsop County launched its 2013 Fundraising Campaign with very successful kick-off.  The event was held at Lum’s Auto Center in Warrenton, and was an opportunity for Campaigners and supporters to become acquainted with the twelve service organizations, currently receiving funding from United Way. Presentations were made, and the community was given a snapshot view into these very important groups who serve our neighbors who have the biggest need. Please see our website for more details – www.clatsopunitedway.org

One of the biggest supporters of the United Way of Clatsop County for years has been Georgia Pacific’s Wauna Mill. Representing this generous company, Kristi Ward presented UWCC’s president, Dick Easton, with a check for $31,500.  In addition, employees will have to opportunity to give through payroll deductions.

This year’s fundraising goal is $275,000, which has already reached 30%. (This number changes daily.) Through the ongoing generosity of our community, and upcoming popular events, like Iron Chef Goes Coastal and Lite Bite, we hope to reach our campaign goal and continue to provide much-needed support to the organizations that help our community. To lend your support, please contact the United Way of Clatsop County at (503) 325-1961. And be sure to “Like” us on Facebook for up-to-date information about upcoming events.
